WHEN TO USE THIS CHECK

Image won't open, preview, or upload correctly?

Start with the file itself. ARADURU checks image-container structure and useful metadata before you assume the problem is the app, website, or filename.

The image will not open or preview Look for missing end markers, malformed records, or truncated image-container data.
The extension may be wrong Compare the filename extension with the image format detected from the file contents.
The copy or download may be incomplete Check whether required PNG, JPEG, GIF, or WebP boundaries are cut off or missing.
You need image metadata before upload Read dimensions, frame count, transparency clues, and the parsed image profile where available.

Image checks that go beyond the extension

The Image File Doctor uses format-specific structure instead of trusting the filename alone. The exact checks depend on the image format detected.

File signature and container structure

Confirm PNG, JPEG, GIF, or WebP identity and inspect required structural records and boundaries.

Dimensions and image profile

Read width, height, image variant, frame count, and transparency clues when the format exposes them safely.

Incomplete or truncated image data

Look for missing IEND/EOI/trailer records, malformed GIF blocks, or inconsistent WebP RIFF boundaries.

Incorrect filename extension

When the contents identify a different image format, ARADURU can explain the mismatch and offer a safely renamed local copy.

Signature, IHDR dimensions, IDAT presence, chunk boundaries, IEND, transparency, and APNG frame declarations.

SOI, frame dimensions, scan marker, segment boundaries, EOI, and baseline/progressive profile.

Logical-screen size, block framing, frame count, transparency flag, and the final GIF trailer.

WEBP

RIFF size, chunk boundaries, VP8/VP8L/VP8X dimensions, payload presence, animation, and transparency clues.

Windows Bitmap

BM signature, DIB header, dimensions, bit depth, declared file size, pixel-data offset, and expected pixel-data boundaries.

TIFF

TIFF / BigTIFF

Byte order, TIFF/BigTIFF header, image-directory chain, dimensions, sample profile, compression, and referenced image-data ranges.

WHAT THIS DOES NOT GUARANTEE

Structure health is not the same as perfect rendering.

A structurally readable image can still have visual defects, unsupported color behavior, application-specific rendering differences, or destination-specific restrictions.

  1. Keep the original. Test renamed or repaired copies separately.
  2. Check visual rendering. Open the image in a trusted viewer or editor when pixels matter.
  3. Use Compatibility Check. Review file-side portability evidence for opening, sharing, or uploading.
  4. Use Upload Check. Compare the image with a website’s exact size, type, and filename rules.
